Lions Go Down To Saints
Liskeard Looe were beaten by local rivals St Austell last saturday by 19-5 in the Cornwall/Debvon league encounter. The seconds however got back on track after their first defeat against the medical school to beat a very strong Helston 2nds side.

We were well beaten by leaders – Mark

Liskeard-Looe 13, Bideford 40
LISKEARD-Looe head coach Mark Goldsmith conceded the Lions had been beaten by the better side on the day after going down at home to leaders Bideford, writes Nigel Walrond.
They lost six tries to one, and Goldsmith said: "This result is a big disappointment for us. You need to win home games against sides at the top of the league to be in contention at the end of the season.
"The scoreline slightly flattered Bideford but they were the better side and deserved the win.

"We could have played better but we were far from poor. We just didn't take all of the chances that we created and let a few soft tries in with some missed tackles.

"We need to pick ourselves up and work incredibly hard over the next few weeks to put ourselves back on track, but one area we need to improve is our all-round fitness and speed to the breakdown. We now travel to Crediton, a tough away fixture, but I am confident we can get a result up there. We are creating enough chances, and it's up to us to have the desire and passion to win, as we have the skills and ability."
Liskeard-Looe took a second-minute lead with a penalty by fly half James Noel-Johnson, but he missed another kick at goal seven minutes later, and Bideford's Ollie Wickett levelled the scores from 24 metres.
From the restart, the ball was deemed to have gone out on the full, and from the ensuing scrum on halfway, winger Wickett ran in for a try.
He scored again in the 21st minute after Bideford had charged down a clearance kick, and in first-half injury time, winger Sam Olde also crossed to give the visitors an 18-3 interval advantage. Liskeard-Looe struck back three minutes into the second half, with No.8 Ali Hill finishing off a catch-and-drive line-out, and Noel-Johnson converting. Wickett and Noel-Johnson exchanged penalties to make it 21-13, but Bideford pulled clear with two tries in three minutes.
Chris Snell touched down for their bonus point, and Olde gathered a kick ahead and raced home for his second touchdown, with Wickett adding the extras. Olde completed his hat-trick in injury time, with Wickett converting.

Liskeard Seconds beat Saltash Seconds 55-22 in a match that doubled up as a Cornwall Merit Table and Plymouth Combination game, but Liskeard Colts went down 29-12 to St Austell.

Liskeard-Looe: Parker, Sam Grant, Sheer, Hocking (capt), J Goodman, Noel-Johnson, D Goodman, Mason, Nicholas, Sobey, Blake, Chambers, Goldsmith, Hutchings, A Hill. Replacements: Steve Grant, Beaver, Collins.
Liskeard-Looe: Try: A Hill; Con: Noel-Johnson; Pens: Noel-Johnson (2).

1sts and 2nds both win
Liskeard 1st XV were never really tested by their opponents and had wrapped up thetry bonus point inside the first 30 minutes. Try Scorers will follow. They finished the game with a scoreline of 72-3 that totally reflected the way they played. It was also another win for the seconds however not as convincing as the 1sts. They came througth their game with an 8*5 victory coutresy of a Brendan McCarthy try.

1st Team Suffer 1st Defeat
Liskeard 1st XV lost their first game of the season away to Hayle on Saturday. The final score was 16-8 with teh points coming froma Paul Caers try and a James Noel Johnson Penalty. The seconds on the other hand managed a win against Plympton Victoria. The Plymouth side turned up with a large squad but could do nothing to stop the seconds unbeaten run that goes back to mid way throught last season. They ran out 31-12 winners with the points coming from trys by Chis Marshall 2, Greg Oxenham and Brendan McCarthy. The rest coming from the boot of Mark Collins.

Stithians Game Rescheduled
The Lions home game with Stithians has had to be re-arranged due to the fact the referee did not show up last saturday. This left players and supporters disappointed as there was no rugby for either of the Lions sides as the 2nds also had to be cancelled due to lack of numbers. Lets hope this week will fair better as the 1sts face a tough trip away to Hayle and the Seconds entertain Plympton Victoria at Lux Park.

1st and 2nds Win
Both lions teams recorded victories in their opening games. The 1sts recorded a good win away from home in what was a poor game. The result is somthing in which will however please Coach Mark Goldsmith on his return to competitive rugby. The 2nds also managed a victory over the team they beat in the RNEC cup final last season. this was a good result against a strong St Columba side.

Season Starts This Weekend
After some very decent performances in pre season the lions look to get their title charge off to a good start away to Teignmouth on Saturday. Good displays in games against Bodmin and Devenport Services as well as a good performance by both teams in an inter club game at Lux park last Tuesday bode well for the boys. Recent injury's to some key players Jamie Robbins (Hernia) and Lewis Elliott (Broken Leg) will force the Lions to make changes but the quality of the squad is such that this should go unnoticed. The second team also look to continue last seasons triumphs in the cup by taking on the very team they beat in the final. They will play St Columba at Lux Park on Saturday with Coach Alex McKay once again at the helm being assisted by Marcus Hill and Phil Mutton.

Raft Race This Sunday
Liskeard Looe will be entering the Seaton to Downderry raft race this coming sunday as a team building exercise for the coming season. The team of rowers is already strong but if anyone wants to join in then please contact Jay Robbins. There will be a raft building session at Tim "Father" Manders house from 2pm on Sunday. If anyone can get hold of some materials or more importantly has some ores then bring them along or contact Jay. Hope to see you all there supporting the boys as there will be a BBQ, Bonfire and Music after the Race.

1st July 2010

Pre-season training time up the club for 7pm start followed by a short team meeting. We need good numbers throughout the season if we're going to challenge for promotion.

Liskeard Looe Welcome back forward Damien Chambers for the coming season. Damien has been at Launceston since he left Liskeard in 2007 where he played on many occasions for the 1st team whilst also being loaned out to Newton Abbot. As well as having a successful three years in club rugby he played a vital part in the Navy's win over the Army in this years Army vs Navy game at Twickenham.

Welcome to the new season and with it the new web site. Apologies for not keeping the site up to date last year. With that said lets get down to business.

There have been many changes in the club this summer with a shakeup in the coaching being the biggest. We are pleased to welcome back Mark Goldsmith as head coach with Chris Hocking stepping into the Director of Rugby role that will give him more time to watch sons Baz and Sam play. Mark is assisted by both Glenn Beaver and Andy Hawken as assistant coaches and Tim Manders continues his role as Team Manager. We also see a change in Captain with Jamie Robbins Taking over from Tristan Nicholas. There is also a new Second team manager with Alex McKay returning after his stint with the colts.

The club is hoping that these changes will help us to continue the success that has brought the Lockie Cup, Promotion, an EDF Junior Vase Twickenham Final and The RNEC Cup for the seconds in the past 3 years.
